My trunk will not open. Upon pressing the open button it appears to be trying to open, but then i hear a rather loud knocking noise coming from the inside of the trunk. Any suggesions? Also, how do I manualy open the trunk?
Thanks

Probably one of your limit switches is out of adjustment. I suspect the one for the flip lid is the culprit. If you have a repair manual it shows how to jumper the relay to get the trunk open electrically. If not you will have to unbolt the cylinders from under the rear bumper and lift it manually. Once you get it opened, check if there is any play in the flip lid. It should be tight against the trunk lid. If it dropped down, it causes the flip lid limit switch to be out of adjustment and the trunk won't open.
I strongly suggest getting the repair manuals. They are a great help, especially with a convertible.
You may want to look into replacing the relays with the system that T Bird Ranch sells. You can see it on this site. Look for "replacement relay system" in the left side of the web page. That system allows you to operate any function of the top mechanism by just pushing a button on the respective relay. It is the best thing I've done to my "66.

You'll also have to take out the bolts for the deck lid unlock screws under each wheel well to lift it manually. Do that first see if you could lift it by hand a little and work the switch at the same time. I strongly agree to get the top repair manual! Don't put your fingers in Harms Way!

Another way is to remove the right, passenger side, rear seat back to gain access to the switches. You can reach into the trunk, push up on the flip lid while having a helper hit the switch on the console. If the problem is a sagging flipper, the trunk will open.
I also recommend the new switches from John. I have them in my '65, 3 or 4 years now, and haven't had any problems.
The books were extremely helpful before the new switches and relays.
Good Luck!
