This is the wifes car but I am priviliged to care for it. The engine is the 3.8 V6 and the idle control motor failed at 146 K miles, and the engine would run at like 2100 RPM. Had local repair shop repair this but, there after the engine would just stall at times.
Did some research on line and found a number of references to "dirty throttle body" causing such problems. Cleaned tb with spray cleaner (I used Valvoline Syn Power) and then after engine was at normal operating temp, I adjusted the idle speed up by several hundred RPM which was too much and had to readjust down by 100 RPM. Not sure if both efforts was required but the problem, was solved, at least for now.
