Help!...Enough wasted time trying to figure this out. I would like to replace my shift indicator on my 66' steering column. After pulling steering wheel, getting the turn signal switch out of the way, I notice the screws for shift indicator are mounted from behind collar. It appears I need to pull the whole front collar peice. I loosened and removed 1 of the 2 7/16" nuts I see, only to have the screw for the nut fall back into column! I loosened the 2nd screw, but this still won't allow unit off. I backed off from the center shaft a snap ring. Still wont come off. Note I also tried to remove shift lever by backing out the pin, but after much time banging on pin I can't seem to get it out. It currently sticks out at bottom of lever a good 3/8" or so, top is flush. What size punch do you need to get this pin out??
Any direction would be GREAT! Greg

Thanks for the link TBirdMan, it did help me as reference. Found the center bearing on steering shaft needed to be removed. After much bangin, penetrating oil , and muscle I finally loosened 44 years of stubborn bearing. I am now able to access what I need. Greg
