Is it possible to screw up a replacement of a fuel pump? After I removed the old pump, I mouned the nw pump by placing the rocker arm in the engine block and mated the mounting holes - it seemed to go in OK - but now I get no fuel in the carborator after starting it by adding fuel to the top of the carburerator.

I'm not sure about yours, but my replacement pump had the in and out ports reversed from the pump I took off. I tried everything I could think of with no results. Finally, I took the fuel line off the carb and turned over the engine while holding a finger over the line. Rather than pressure, it had suction. After reversing the lines at the pump, it fired right up.

Did you make sure you slid the pump lever under the cam when you installed?

When I first installed the pump I think the pump lever was above the engine cam - I tried to re-install it after "feeling" the cam, placed the lever under the cam but I can't get the pump assembly to lay flat against the block surface to thread the bolts - the bottom of the pump is about 10 degrees off center and when I push it tight it appears to be flat but I can't hold it tight and thread the bolts in! AHHHHH! Now I ripped the gasket and I am back to square one. I will compare the ports in the old pump to the new pump at the bottom of the pump with the filter cannister off to see if the comnnections are right.

When you take it off press the lever and see if it has suction. Turn the engine a little so the cam is not pressing the lever when you install it.

Thanks for all the help - I had the ports reversed also and the lever arm was not inserted properly when I first installed the pump - now it works like a charm!
