door locks on '64

I have a question about the door locks on my '64. I purchased the car needing major restoration...one of the issues is I can not open the front doors with the ignition key. Because of this I can not lock up the car when I take it out around town.

I have a separate key for the trunk, however, it was modified by the prevoius owner to the newer double-sided type key.

Did the old trunk key do double duty as the front door lock key?

Not in the 60's Fords. Some time in the late 70's or 80's Ford switched to the "square" key being ignition and the "round" key being door and trunk. Ford later discovered they had it right the first time and switched back to the one key running the ignition and doors.

If you have determined the lock is free, I would bet some one put in a set of door locks with a different key patttern. I think you can get a locksmith to fix the door lock pattern for you otherwise you can buy matched sets (ignition and door)from John Draxler or other suppliers.

Good luck. Vince
