I am installing a set of disc brakes onto my 62 hardtop from a 66 thunderbird - straight bolt on. The proportioning valve is being rebuilt but I am not sure to two items, maybe someone can assist? - does the valve have a mounting bracket that it attaches to on the cowl, if so, any chance of a photograph or image so I can make one up? (rimfire@lexicon.net) - the valve has two brake lines in/out with raised letters (M & K?); which line and goes to the rear brakes and which to master cylinder? thanks - Rhinoman

Off subject. Will the 66 disc bolt right up on a 62? If so can you show before and after pictures. I have a 62 and would like to do the same to mine

Yes, the 66 disc brake setup will bolt straight up to the 62 front end. That in reality means you require the spindles off the 66 and rotors as well as the brake proportioning valve. I have had the calipers reconditioned and order ed the proportioning valve kit off Macs. The rotors after 40+ years are likely to be shot so budget those in - I was lucky enough that another member had a set for sale that are now on (slow) a boat to Australia. Finally, to make your ride safe in todays traffic, consider replacing the master cylinder with a dual setup. You will find that the shock tower brace requires mod's and of course new brake lines. That's probably an interesting subject so I would like to produce a set of images and instructions and post to Johns site showing the upgrade process if people are interested? cheers rhinoman p..s could take a few months as I only work on the car on weekends!

I have a 65 which is apart so pics would be rather easy and clear if it is the same as a 66. If it is let me know and I can get them for you

Hi Dans, thanks very much, I'd really appreciate if you could show me what the bracket looks like and where the two outlets go to. I am led to believe the 65' IS the same so thats fine. Kind regards, Graeme
