Received a new set of springs from a T-Bird parts supplier yesterday. Today at a show, I was told not to use new T-Bird springs on a '66, they ride too low. It is better to use a different spring (unknown)for proper ride. Anyone heard this?

I have no idea what you were told but, the standard coupe springs do tend to settle over time. It is not uncommon to see owners replace the coupe springs with ones intended for the convertables. They have a higher rate and will maintain the ride height.

Thanks, there are air shocks in the rear so the ride height can be adjusted. The present springs are tired, so there will be an improvement no matter. Had I known, I would have ordered convertable springs in the first place.

HI;
1st time posting here........much better off to have your old springs re-arched.....will get better leveling job on the car. I had my leaf springs redone yesterday on my '66 T-bird convertible. If the springs are original, they will have gone soft and be drooping. Mine were down a good 3 inches. I got the spring shop to re-arch the existing springs a full 3 inches and also add a support leaf on each unit. Also, I had them add a top and bottom lifter to the front coil spring on the driver's side. Now the car sits level just like out of the factory.
p.s. It was suggested to me to forget about air shocks...don't install them....won't help with the car being level...it's the springs that keep the car level.

Air shocks were in the car already. Car is dead level side to side so no adjustment is needed there. Front to back can be leveled with the air shocks easily. My problem is not enough "bounce" in the rear. I already have the springs on site so shipping them back along with re-torquing the old springs may be more expensive than replacement. Any thoughts?
