I have a 64 convertible and the power steering is continuously leaking. I have replace the pump and high pressure hose but it still leaks. Not sure where the leak is coming from but it is dripping from the bottom of the pump. Is there something I am missing in replacing these parts?

How's the return line? Those fail too. Is the resevoir overfilled? Check the fluid level when the system is at normal operating temperature. Also, defective parts sometimes come in new packages. Just because it is "new" doesn't mean it's good. The seal around the drive shaft is often a source of leakage and the resevoir itself is sealed to the pump body by a large o-ring- another possibile leak site. The resevoir can is held on by a bolt and washer which could be loose. Double check the pressure hose and all the hose connections. The pressure hose is a 2 piece assembly and where the hoses join, it could also be leaking slighltly and running down hill to the pump. It's a long shot but still a possibility. You did use a tubing wrench to tighten the flare fittings, right? A distorted flare nut will cause leakage too. Good luck.

Thanks very much for the info. I removed the resevoir can and changed the 2 o-rings. That seems to have fixed the problem. I appreciate the insight into what to look for.

Glad to be of some help. Not long ago, I had a pool of fluid from the pressure hose dribbling all over the top of my engine so, I can sympathize with your problem. What a mess!
