You can buy halogen lamps built into the round '60's style headlamp assembly. Fits as a direct replacement.

Halogen lamps will help but be aware that your 50 year old electrical system is probably not up to the task either. In the interests of safety, I would recommend installing relays to power the headlights of your choice. They will supply full voltage to the lamps and reduce the load on headlight switch and associated wiring. BTW, you may be surprised how much brighter the OE sealed beams are when powered with full voltage. Color wiring diagrams are availble on-line and the cost of materials is about $30 +/-. Kits are also being peddled about but I wouldn't vouch for their quality.

The Halogens made for old style cars are excellent lamps. Keep in mind what kandiapple said is true. However we've run them just plug and play on every single car we've owned and couldn't believe how much better they were. My Fury had lamps about as bright as a 5 candle power flashlight and obviously we couldn't drive with them at night. We put in Halogens and we were just as bright as anything. Now we have em in my Tbird, the Edsel, Fury, Riviera etc and they're one of the best things you can do to improve your vehicle relatively cheaply in my opinion.
