I'm trying to take off the oil pan on a 1965 Tbird with a 390. It seems that the a crossmember is in the way of it. What should I do? I heard I might have to pull the motor out, but I don't want to do that. Any suggestions?

The engine does not have to be removed however, you will have to jack the motor up a couple of inches. After drainig the oil, remove all the pan bolts, drop the pan onto the crossmember and then un-bolt the oil pump and allow it to drop into the pan. The pan will slide out toward the front. You will probably also have to rotate the crankshaft with a breaker bar to clear some of the crank throws. This is a tedious job but not that difficult. Prepare to get dirty, LOL.
