My 1988 TC at times (engine warm or cold) idles anywhere from 1500-2000rpms. It can happen when I am driving or stopped. If I shut thecar off and restart it comes back to a normal idle (approx 7000)
Any Ideas?

There is a throttle control valve located beside the throttle body. It probably needs to be replaced.But, Your problem could be the MAP Sensor as well, which is located on the drivers side firewall under the hood. It works off of vaccum to help supply the throttle body with the right air mixture. Hope this helps you out.
