Car stalling from dirty gas or secondary gas filter?

I replaced my entire fule system a couple of months ago (fuel tank, fuel lines, carb and fuel pump). When I was completed I added a secondary glass fuel filter. Since that time I've had the car shutdown and traffic due to dirt in the fuel filter. The dirt is small size black pieces and I'm not sure where its coming from.

My questions is does others have one of the glass gas filters installed before the carb causing the same problem. Should I replace the fuel pump filter and remove the secondary one. Any comments or experiences with a situation like this would be appreciated.

I think the glass filter is a great idea as you get an instant view of the condition of fuel. If the black stuff is making to that filter (you didn't say which filter is clogging), your standard paper filter has a serious problem or might be the problem.

Did the new tank come with a drain plug? I'd drain a pint or two of gas and see if the material is in the tank. If so, you know where this stuff is starting from. Maybe the stuff was accidentally left behind in the manufacturing process. If the black stuff is hard, they may be rust flakes.

Good Luck, Vince

I see the black stuff in the glass filter and just assume that was the one clogging the system, but now I will go ahead and pull the paper one from the new fuel pump and replace it to see if its the cause.

If you put a glass filter on you must have rubber hoses. Are they correct for fuel and new?

Remove the filter located at the fuel pump and pour the contents into a glass jar and let it settle for a day or two. If you see a lot of sediment at the bottom of the glass jar, your gas tank is probably rusted inside. If not the problem is somewhere between the fuel pump and the new glass filter.

Yes, all the new hoses are new and for fuel. I will take off the fuel filter this week and see what is inside. Hopefully its just gas junk from the station and not the new tank rusting. I will also siphen some gas from the tank and put it in a glass jar to see if I get some settlement as well.
