My 1962 390 with a 600 cfm holley gets 11.75 per gallon. This is with new plugs, wires and distributer (electronic). So I would say thats about average

Dang guys, brand new 428 P.I., rebuilt C4, original carburetor, 165 thermostat, the dual exhaust, and I get 17.5mpg highway. Without the thermostat I got 16, old 390 got 20 with the same setup, no special plugs/wires or anything else. City mileage is unknown.

My '66 convertible with a 390 gets between 12 and 13 mpg no matter where, city or highway. It all depends on how heavy a foot you have, but when it is only driven a few thousand miles a year, who cares. It's fun and worth it.

My '66 Q-code Town Landau will get 16 mpg on the highway, A/C running, 70+ mph. BTW, fuels blended with ethanol will lower mpg significantly, city or highway.
