I recently bought a 66 t bird. I knew the tranny was changed from auto to 3speed on the floor, but now I'm wondering if the engine was changed also.It has a 2v on it and should have a 4v it should be a 390 but I'm not even sure of thaT now. I'm very happy with the car but I want a 4v and would like to know exactly what I have. can anyone help me with engine #s thanks

If you are going to do much with the engine you may find the book by Crist helpful. Think it is called "How to rebuild a big block Ford". The first part of the book is spent on engine I.D. This way you will know what you have and what you need. What you are supposed to have is a 390 or 428 both with 4bbl. If the 5th digit of your VIN is a 'Z' then its a 390 car, if it's a 'Q' then it's a 428. After this you need to find casting numbers. If you want a correct '66 engine the numbers need to begin with 'C6xxxxxx'. You may know this but all these engines have a '352' cast in the front of the engine, this does not mean you have a 352ci. Check John Draxler's Thunderbird Ranch website and he has suppliers who could get you whole or partial engines. Good luck and have fun. Vince
