Hello All,
Took the wife out for dinner last night. When we were coasting down a hill the car stalled out & didn't restart! Got a jump & went to dinner. The car started after dinner but the headlights were very dim & I held the accellerator pedal down while braking at lights to unsure the car didn't stall!
My guess is the alternator is bad, but the amp gauge was in the middle the whole time. Any other thought?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
jim

Has all the symptoms of a weak battery. Now the question is, is it the battery or the charging system.

Don't know if you have a meter to check the alternator output, that would be a good step. You could yank the battery and the alternator and get them tested at the parts store (eg AutoZone) for free. If both test well, the voltage regulator or solenoid are suspect. One other odd thing that happended to me is the ground cable at the block seemed to get insulated by crud and I ended with an iffy connection.

I have also notice the battery cable connections seem to oxidize quickly on a car used only on occasion.

Good luck and Regards, Vince
