Is it right that a 65 may have either a 27 or 29 battery... and what is the length/width of both so I can ensure what my tray takes? Thanks in advance... rob

The grp 27F = 12 1/2 x 6 13/16 x 9

The grp 29NF = 13 x 5 1/2 x 9

Either size is appropriate for your Bird.

Thanks Kandiapple66 ! Details I needed. Quick follow-up: Are you implying that in '65 both size batteries were sent from the factory, or is one more "correct" than the other? Also, I believe Ford used all red-caps over the cells... correct?

Rob, I'm just guessing here but, I think the larger battery may have been OE on units equiped with factory A/C. Either battery would have been an Autolite "Sta-ful" brand. I can't remember for sure but, red cell caps sounds right. These batteries are being repopped, BTW.

According the the VTCI specs, a '65 could have had a 27hf or 24f form battery. The '29' and 27 were used in the '64. Hope this helps.

Was a battery heat shield like I have on my 66 standard eqipment on 66 Birds ?

My early production 66 does not have one. I think that heat sheild came with the later production 66 models.

My 66 is a very late model, but i thought they all had one.

I checked mine pretty careful and coundn't find any evidence of one ever being there.

Heat shields were not on 65's

My 66 has a build date of Nov 18th 1965 (date code 18L) ... I do not know if this qualifies as an early build?? But I do know, same as you, upon close inspection, my t-bird never had heat shield installed. The inner fender certainly has no screw holes on it from where the heat shield would have mounted.

Anybody know if my bird would be considered an early or late build?
