I've just bought a 65 SL that has been grage kept but not started since 81. I went to start it and the engine won't turn, insted the low fuel light and the door ajar both got out, no other system is affected(as far as I can tell). There is also a funny clicking noise when you first hit the key. Any ideas?

Sounds like a dead battery

<Repilie too Bob> That was the first thing I check and it is not the battery for sure.

If your battery is good pull the wires off your solenoid and clean all the conections

Assume you know you can use your jumper cable to jump from the positive battery post to the starter side of the solenoid. If you get good turn and nothing changed after cleaning the connections, you may want to suspect the starter solenoid. One more esoteric problem. As you clean connections be sure the ground connection at the block is clean and good. Some time ago crud built up there on a car and cleaning that cleared up a couple of problems.
