How difficult is it to disassemble and refurbish a 65 Bird's steering column? Found mine to have a lot of movement within the column like bushings or gromets ahd broken down.

I suggest you call John Draxler at the Thunderbird Ranch. Not only could he get you the parts but could give you practical disassembly and assembly hints to make the job go easier.

READ your shop manual. It's not that difficult. If I can do it, anyone can. Several years ago, I changed the steering column on my convertible with another parts car (along with the dash). The shop manual is very helpful. You will need some small parts, like bushings, that can be gotten from John Draxler.
