steering column bushing replacement

Hi,
I have to replace the steering column bushing on my 64 t-bird. I was wondering if anyone has tried to do the Alternate Method as discribed by John. Is this a doable choice or is it better to go by the numbers in the shop manual. Also, can you reach the bottom of the steering column by taken off the metal shields behind the front left tire?

Thanks
Herb Strachman

hi

i have never done it this way however have looked the cars over many times since I posted the article submitted to my website and have condluded that this is a viable alternative to removing the column from the car.

the splash shield area will be a good access point for you.
