I'm looking to replace my '61 bird's generator weith an alternator. Can anyone point me to a site where I can find a parts listing and maybe even a wiring diagram? Thanks, Darel '61 T-Bird hardtop '97 Cummins Ram '98 Jeep TJ '67 IH Scout 800

the first problem you need to overcome is how to mount an alternator on your engine. You will have to make a bracket to do this. The setup they used on the later birds will not work as the engine block was changed in 1963 to include a boss on the side of the engine that was drilled and tapped for a bolt that held the alternator on. You can make a bracket similiar to the generator mounting bracket only one that will fit the alternator in that area. My recommendation for an alternator would be a one-wire style like they use on most of the street rod conversions. These will come with instructions.

Actually, my block is a C6ME - one reason I'm not worried about keeping it all original. I have been pointed in the direction of a Crites module that allows use of an alternator ('74 T-Bird was an application recommended to me) and also takes care of the wiring and the voltage regulator. Can I use a stock bracket then? Anything else I need to know? Thanks, Darel '61 T-Bird hardtop '97 Cummins Ram '98 Jeep TJ '67 IH Scout 800

yes you can bolt in any standard ford alternator then. It will take a bolt and spacer for the top along with the bracket from the water pump for that top bolt and then the bracket to curve down to the adjuster bolt side of the alternator.
