Hey y'all. I'm new to the group today. I just purchased a 1965 Hardtop from my brother, the car has been in the family since new in 1965 when my grandfather purchased it for my grandmother. I am beginning a full restore as the car will be my wife’s when I'm done.

So, here are my two burning questions and I apologize ahead of time if they've been asked before. First off, I want to convert my 390 over to an electronic ignition system. I know that I had seen some information about a compatible system but I can no longer find it. Second, I'd really like to convert over to an EFI system and get rid of the 4bbl. My intent is to build a super reliable touring car that runs smooth and gets decent mileage over the long haul. Any help that y'all can provide would really be appreciated!

Welcome to the Tbird family! The ignition of choice is the Pertronix, they have a good web site or you can get it at nearly aby auto parts store for about $60.00 or $70.00, easy install and great product. As for your EFI, it's interesting as I lurk around a forum called FE.com, which covers all aspects of the 352, 390, 428 ect, engine family. There was a post tonight about the very same thing, I will paste in in for you. The responder is Faron Rhoades a very reputable FE builder for many decades and also the top ignition man for recurving your FE distributor if you choose to send it his way.

Response to EFI and Electronic Ignition for 1965 390

Now converting to Electronic Ignition , a Big Yes , its just the Fuel injection will cost 3-5 grand and that is if you can do it all yourself, even 3000 will by a lot of Gas , and since most of our FE's are not everyday cars, lets see 5000 miles a year at 10 mpg figure 2.5 a gallon is $1250 per year, Injection Might , and I say Might get that up to 15 , better figure 30% better so .66 x $1250 = $825 thats a $400. saving so in 10 years you may break even. I looked at Injection for on top my blower, carbs will stay, but if its what you want go for it, I used Force Fuel Injection , out of Florida on a customers car and they were good to deal with. they are on the Web

Here is a link to the forum, very knowledgeable bunch and great place to get excellent engine and other info for your Tbird.
