66 ball joints

Hello all.

I have a 66 Tbird. I am putting in a new front end kit and the upper ball joint is not seating all the way. One side, I just turned the nut until the cotter pin hole was exposed. The other side will not let me turn it enough to get the pin in, but darn close. What I am thinking is that if I get everything put back together and set the car down, the weight will make it seat a little more. Then I could tighten it more and add the cotter pin.
Is this a bad idea, or does anyone else have a suggestion? I know that these need to be done right, for safety's sake...

Thanks.

BTW, Thanks John for the site. Don't know what I would do without all of your info.

Letting the car down sounds okay as that would put max. pressure
on the joint. There is no chance of it going anywhere.
Are you sure you do not have some dirt in the arm.

Thanks.
I don't think there is any dirt as I cleaned everything up pretty good as I took it all apart. Good suggestion, though.

I will drop the car down and hope for the best.

Thanks again!
