I bought a 63 t-bird, the previous owner informed me the vehicle has an engine from a 66 bird, still 390. My question is, the power brake booster vacuum ports connect to intake manifold and tranny throttle vacuum line? Am i correct with this or does one of the port vacuum lines connect to the back of the carb?

Also would like to know how the vacuum lines are supposed to be hooked throughout the vehicle. Please I need help bad!

Hi there - Sound like you need to purchase a service manual for your new Bird. This link has quite a number of Vacuum diagrams http://www.tbirdranch.com/

I looked through them and didn't specifically see one for PB's and tranny, although I was looking at 66 not 63. It's pretty basic, the transmission modulator uses a small line and just needs any constant vacuum supply and could come from either the intake or carb. The brake vacuum is much larger and also needs constant vacuum and usually is connected to the manifold or sometimes the carburetor spacer plate.

For both connections you should have the appropriate sized fittings or nippples for each hose and be certain that they are snug. Often times a small hose clamp can be used on the brake vacuum to ensure a leak free connection. If your manifold is not equipped with the fittings, you should have at least one large port in the rear of the intake, you can use a tee if necessary and put them both in the same port.

Vacuum is vacuum makes no difference where it's from as long as it isn't drawn above the carburetor butterflies. The only one drawn from there is usually vacuum advance or switched vacuum that does not require a constant full signal like the modulator, brakes, variouss accys. for the interior and exterior like door locks ect.

Good Luck!!

I truly wanna thank you for the info, that truly helps me out. I do have the shop manual for the 63, but since the engine is from a 66, I truly thought the vacuum hook ups would be somewhat different. Sure would be easier if the original motor was in the vehicle, seems the 390 engines of the 63 and 66 are somewhat different but very much similar. Again thank you!

p.s. - Wow you have alot of classic's. I oneday will own a 65 convertible t-bird, which is my dream car. Will oneday pass my 63 down to my son or daughter! Thanks again for the reply!
