I have a beautiful 66 Town Landau with 428 which is loaded to the gill with goodies. Had it about a year and have been working through the many things that need to be adjusted or replaced after 44 years. Lots of unconnected vacuum lines. Got the parking brake working today but it releases immediately upon starting the car rather than park (I had a 65 convertible back in 1970 and parking brake released when shifter moved to drive). Reconnected the lines going into steering neutral safety switch but it does not matter which line goes on top or on bottom as both act same way. I was surprised that there were no electrical connections to the switch but learned while reading prior posts that C6 has it's own switch on tranny so the column switch is only for parking brake. Do see contacts for electrical connector but none that are disconnected nearby (there is one connector for the cruise control which is disconnected). Any suggestions where to start regarding why brake releases immediately rather than when shifter is moved to drive? Thanks!

There is a vacuum diagram for the parking brake release on the home page for this site. Go down the left side to "diagrams" and you will find it. If it still gives you a problem it is probably the neutral safety switch itself. I should release in reverse or in either of the drive positions. It may be out of adjustment. Try loosening it and moving it to see if that corrects the problem.

Jim, You were right on. The neutral safety switch was out of adjustment. Incredible how many vacuum components in this car were hooked up in reverse, not connected, etc. Have most everything now working including the locks, trunk release, rear vent, parking brake and heat. Still to go is the AC (vents sound like open and closing) but prior owner thought it needed a new "valve" under the dash. Also have cruise control in this car but I think that one will be beyond my abilities to get working. Thanks again for your help.
