390 Engine, keeps stalling,
Just bought a 64 T bird. Was garaged for 20 years. They started the engine 5 years ago once. I got the engine running. Runs rough. Smokes a lot. Blue and black. Smells like it is running rich. It dies the moment I put in gear.
More info:
- Pressure tested the cylinders. 150, 160, 150, 180, 160, 165, 160, 150 are the pressures. Used a general pressure tool from Auto Zone. Hand tightened it.
- The engines will back fire into the carburetor after I turn the engine off and want to restart.
- The lines to the air filter chamber is not attached. I don't know where it comes from.
- Spark plugs carbon out in few minutes.
- I have changed the carburetor and am using a refurb OEM.
Any advice. I don't really want to open the engine if I don't need to.Will be my first engine job!!!
