I have had my automatic trans rebuilt. After driving the car for maybe a month, I noticed a leak. Transmission fluid slowly dripping at the bottom of the bell housing. I took the car back to the garage where it was rebuilt. Same thing happened after a few weeks. A number of guys have told me that is very common and not much can be done, except to keep an eye on the fluid level. Any ideas on how to correct this leak? Would it be o.k. to use some of the transmission leak products that are on the market? Thanks

You most likely have a front pump seal leaking. You paid good money for a rebuild and the shop is responsible. Hold their feet to the fire until it is fixed. Either the transmission or engine must be removed to fix a front pump seal problem. Either the pump shaft is worn (should have been caught and replaced during rebuild), the seal was installed wrong, the seal is defective, the seal was never replaced. The shop is responsible for all four of those answers.

So a number of guys say it is common, sure if the tranny hasn't been rebuilt for 5 or 10 years I would expect a seal leak, but on a fresh rebuild NO WAY. There is no reason why you should be buying and pouring "tune up in a can" chemicals into a fresh transmission. I would take it back and ask them kindly to fix the fluid leak, if they can't or won't I'd take it to another shop and get an estimate and take the bill to the first shop and ask them to reimburse the money or send them a letter to meet you at small claims court. Batter Up - Step on up there!
