I have a 79 T-bird with a york compressor and was wondering if anyone knows if I should have an inertia ring on it? Will that make it run smoother? A friend of mine has the same car and his has the ring, but, an a/c technician told me my car doesnt need one.Any comments??? Thanks!!

Unfortunately, the York compressor is a natural vibrator. I have the thick type ring on mine and it doesn't seem to do a great deal to dampen the vibration. I suspect yours has a damper too but perhaps a different appearing one. If you want to eliminate the vibration all together, replace the compressor with an axial type, such as the Sanden SD-709. It is very efficient and smooth running. JMO

Sanden compressors are very popular in the aftermarket. They can be purchased through a number of vendors. Just google sanden and take your pick.
