Hi,
I recently got a 1987 Bird with the auto dimming and shutting off lights. My problem is in the low beam and speedometer not lighting.I was told that the column dimmer switch was bad I replaced it to no avail. The headlight bulbs have been checked and are good. The speedometer is the digital one.I think there is a bad relay but I'm unsure how to test them or of there exact location.Has anyone else had this problem and if so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,

I have this exact same problem with my digital instrument cluster - everything else on my dash works. My gauges quit just like that - I got in and turn it on and - no instruments... I thought it was the 15A fuse located under the drivers side dash 0 I replaced the one designated "Cluster" - but nothing happened and I still have no digital instruments. There are some relays under the hood by the battery, but they look kinda strange and I didn't wanna mess with them...

Please le me know if you find a solution, and I'll do the same.

Thanks,

Paul - jammur@hotmail.com

Behind the speedometer cluster is a number of light bulbs in various places. These bulbs are plugged into a black housing. You'll have to pull the cluster out far enough to get to them. I would replace all the bulbs while the cluster is out. I have a 88 'bird with the didgitable cluster, and the turbo coupe light bulbs are the same. Hope this helps you with your problem.
