I have a 67 Bird that literally came in pieces. I thought the challenge would be rewarding and so far it has been.
I'm looking for the ground connection for the battery....where does it go?
On the 428 there are two tapped holes, 1/2-13 thred, one is on a cast block behind the alternator, the other is about midway back near the oil pan seam....what are they for?
The negative cable has a 3/8" lug on the end and I think it bolts to the engine block. But where exactly?

Upholstery go to Kanter that's where my seats came from there should be something for '67. One thing you have to understand about the '67+ Tbird's is they are not considered classics so not a whole lot of stuff is being produced like the 66 and down. However there is hope for you! I have heard of some things being made but I have no idea to what extent. Is there a way you could take a picture and get it on here for us to be able to see what hole you're talking about? I couldn't find a decent picture of my 428 to tell you.

Edit: Found a picture of my 428, see any of the holes you are talking about in this pic?

Just above the oil pan are two tapped holes
about 8 inches apart....
Just under the cylinder head are cast areas with
two more tapped holes, one is directly below the
front head bolt.

I tried to add arrows and re-post but I'm still working on that....

I do not believe either of those are used on stock 428s. I believe that block casting close to the pan was probably for the oil sump system on a 427. I don't know the other holes but I do not believe I used them. Hopefully some others will chime in.

Thanks for your help and especially the great photo of the 428.

Let me know how you're resto is coming along.

I bought mine from a guy who had stripped his down and never marked anything, nor did he take any pix. Then he was supposedly terminal with "C" and sold me the car. It has been a real challenge to put the puzzle back together.
I have the shop manual but it is lacking on drawings and photos. The parts cd I bought is somebody's idea of a fast buck...some of the pages are missing and the scanning job is not the best.
I'll post a photo when I get a chance.

'...inaBox, are you trying to do a concours type of restoration or do you just want to get it running? The tapped holes above the pan rail are not for any oiling system. The forward one was used to attach the OE negative cable cable from the battery. The OE cable also had a flag type terminal in the middle to ground the chassis. The smaller tapped holes you refer to were commonly used to fasten clips to hold wiring cables. You can either try to track down a correct type negative cable or just piece one together.

In regards to the ground wire question -

If it's anything like my 1976 Thunderbird,
the ground wire from the battery goes over
to the front edge of the block.

Take a peek at the picture that SKFury440 posted.

You've got a nice view of the cylinder head.

Look at the lower cylinder head bolt, on the
far right-hand side of the picture, right
on the bottom/corner of the cylinder head.

Directly below that is a tapped hole.

On the 460, that is where the ground wire
typically attaches to the block.

(There is usually a metal & rubber clip that
shares that bolt, to support the positive wire
for the starter, but that might not be the case
for you.)

Don't forget -- there should also be a separate
ground strap, from the block to the firewall.

This normally attaches to the back of the
cylinder head, and attaches somewhere to
the firewall, and provides a ground for
all of the electrical accessories on the
rest of the car. Some models may
also have an auxiliary ground wire from
the battery to the chassis nearby.

I hope this helps. . .

Thanks to all for your help with the grounding... I think that issue is solved for now.

I have two braces that I have no idea where they go one is a tube with flattened ends and is
about a foot long

The other is a solid rod with flattened ends.

If anybody has these on a 428 with A/C could you get me a picture or two?

Thanks [/IMG][IMG:top] [/IMG]

Here's another question:
I need a good photo of the location of the hydraulic line
for the P/S to windshield motor.

Also the routing of the wiring harness for the coil/temp sensor wire.

[/IMG]

Getting close to finishing this thing....
