I have a 55 tbird with a 292 and can't find any evidence of overdrive parts. Is the Fordomatic without OD really just a 2-speed??

You me really confused. Overdrive??? I thought the only overdrive was in a manual trans. I have a '57 Fairlane 500 with a fordomatic and it's a three speed that starts out in second gear while in the drive position. Why,I don't know. If you put the shifter into low/1st the trans will shift into first.
