Can anyone offer a source for seals and gaskets for my FMX tranny on my 65. At this point I'm not looking for a whole rebuild kit as the tranny runs perfectly when fluid levels are correct, but left sitting she drops a ton of fluid. Seems to drip off of the bell housing

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

Call John Draxler. He can get anything you need and give you advice on doing the job.

Hey Birdman,

Down here we have Advance Auto Parts and Autozone as large chain type parts stores. Neither seems to show available tranny gaskets and seals for my 65 FMX. Are their other years and models that can be used as a cross fererence that have the same tranny? Maybe I can locate it through cross reference.

Ken - Part of the problem may be that the FMX was not offered in the 65 Tbirds. The Cruisomatic was the orginal transmission. Are you certain it is the FMX, if so someone had to have installed it.

I went to partsamerica.com which is the online store for Advanced Auto Parts and they show all the seals for the Cruisomatic, you must have a NAPA store nearby as well, they are US wide. Either way seals and gaskets are Tbird items that are all still readily available at any parts store.

The way to identify the FMX and Cruisomatic, the Cruiso bellhousing is removeable from the transmission body by a series of bolts and the FMX bell is cast solid to the body.

As for the leak around the lower bell area, that is most likely the front pump seal. That's going to require either pulling the tranny to repair. Once you get the tranny out it's about a 5 minute job. Good Luck

Another way to tell if someone has put in an fmx is, In the small dot on the indicater the trans will shift first-second-and third. If it is a cruise it will start out in second and shift to third in that small dot position.
