Does anyone have any experience with wire wheels? eg any problems with spokes breaking, quality of ride, air leaking, flats, etc? I have a 1960. Thanks.

I hope you get some response because I want to investigate replacing existing wheels for wire on my '64 Bird. I have read reports that Roadsters had problems with them resulting in a change of specs. to strengthen the spokes.
I'm told there were some problems with the early 48 spoke Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, however, the problem was corrected on later models. The new reproduction wire rims for Thunderbirds are available with 56 spokes for added strength and durability. I have a set on my 66 convertible and haven't had any problems in the 4 years they've been on the car and I drive the car at highway speed a lot.
i also have a 64 bird and have been serching for wire rims, i want to run firehawk indy 500s on lip laced wires. i found this company tonight and will be loking into it more. they're webby is www.wheelvintiques.com they have a nice set of wire rims and a photo garage on the site to see what some look like, although no pics of any birds.
