Hi T-bird lovers,

I'd like to get antique/collector car insurance for my 1978 Town Landau and was wondering which are the good companies/policies to use. Thanks for your input!

Po,

I have used my regular auto insurance company (Allstate then, now State Farm) without problem. You need to check with your agent regarding declared value and documentation to support the value. I will also say I did not have the occasion to use the insurance(thanks God)so I can't report on problems with claims. My brother did the same with his '67 Mustang (don't recall the carrier) and had no problem with a $3,000 hail damage claim.

Good Luck

For classic car insurance, I have used Hagerty. They are based in the Midwest and have a very good reputation nation-wide. They focus exclusively on vintage automobiles.

I pay $160.00 per year.
Here's the number:
1-800-922-4050

Thanks for the replies so far! I'd use my regular insurer, but the bad thing is that I live in Massachusetts, birthplace of Paul Revere and bad driving, so unfortunately it ain't too cheap to insure the 'bird the traditional way.

I'll contact Hagerty and JC Taylor soon. I also saw an ad for American Collectors... anyone have experience with them? Thanks again,

Po

I have had a policy with American Collectors since 1989. However (lucky me!) I've never had to file a claim with them. I insure 2 1965 Thunderbirds for about $200 per year...full coverage. I'm supposed to limit annual usage to 2,500 miles each. I have gone over that but, so far, it hasn't been an issue.

Why would anyone use a specialty fompany when Staefarm and Allstate do exactly that. i am sure also the larger companies all insure classics. My 60 bird cost me 140.00 a year and give me 2500 miles... please explain why use a company like hagerty.. hey a Dusenberg with 1 mill ok, i can see that,

Hi, I use Hagerty, You name your own value for the car and they insure it for that amount [ still very cheap]. I don't beleive theres a set limit on your milage not that you would go more then 2,500 any way. Also if you buy a collector car at a show it's automaticly insured till you get it home. There# is 1-800-922-4050
