A 1979 T-Bird with T-Tops, Bucket seats, floor shifter, and black in color in very rare. If it is available and in rust free condition, you should snap it up and restore it. It would be a great treasure. Tim

Thanks Tim I bought the car 8 years ago and its still in good looking and running condition. My wife might be a little bit happier. she has been wanting me to get rid of it for awhile now but it was more or less my first car so I wanted to keep it.

The 1977-79 T-Birds are not in demand at this point in the vintage/classic car world. One look at e-bay will underscore that unhappy fact. Even the 1978 Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee, the top of the line for these styled cars, are treated with a "ho-hum" attitude. I've seen these cars listed "for sale" on many websites. They seem to just sit unnoticed. A few Bird enthusiasts out there feel different (I own two myself, a '78 DJ and a '79, and a 1972 Mustang Mach 1, 351-4v))).
But fear not, these cars will rise in popularity. They're not too big and not too small. They're very safe to drive. They have a look all their own. They come with enough options to use them as daily drivers. And, once their restored to their original look, they do look beautiful. So, keep your Birds, restore them right, and wait patiently for the future to turn its eyes to our beloved 77-79 Birds. Tim Cole, Florida

I like the looks of of the '77 - '79's also. I currently own a '69 Fordor. Is it possible that the '77 - '79's aren't that popular is because most people think of them as over dressed LTD's? I think the early '80's will begin to raise in value soon also.

As someone once said, "They're just Torino's in drag." I've always resented that statement. I own a black T-Bird with T-Tops and console shift. A great car, fun to drive. Yes, Ford used tried & true technology to build these cars. As the seventies ended and downsizing was the future, these cars looked out of pace with the times. BUT, that was twenty five years ago. As a younger generation discover these T-Birds, that is when they will truly take off in the collector market. Meanwhile, they're ours to enjoy, in drag or not.

I totally understand what your saying tb79. I am that younger generation your talking about. My gf got me the T-bird for my bday, and I wasnt too thrilled about it before I saw/drove it... I am now in love with this girl. I have more fun driving it (even in the crap condition it's in) then I do with any other car I've had so far. (to be fair it's compatition is a 91 geo prizem and a 95 minivan)
Well....A Mini van and a Geo are not much competition. Having said that, I think that all cars are collectable. Monitary value is something else though. A 77-79 T-Top/console shift is rare, add on the sport option, would be even rarer and would be worth more than a low optioned T-Bird. But, you can say that for almost any car make, classic or not. Don't invest your retirement savings in one, you'll never get it back. But who cares? I can only speak for myself, but it's all about the fun I have with my T-Bird. As a younger generation discovers these cars, we all will benefit from the increased part suppliers and shared info. So, youngfarmer....hold on to your T-Bird and just have fun. PS The person who said that "These are just Torino's in drag" was a writer for a magazine called "Collectable Automobile" an otherwise excellent publication that I reccomend to everyone.

I'd hang on to it, definately. I have a red 79 with t-tops and get the thumbs up all the time. Some people see it and don't even know what it is. Enjoy!
The way I figure it 77-79 will have to be considered collectors car some day. this body style sold more than any other bird before it and maybe since it. I have a Black 79 town landau with t-top and every other option available. It didn't come with buckets but that's what it will have when I'm done. No floor shifter though. I won't give up my tilt wheel for it.
